Project

Can Jai de Dalt

This ancient property set in vast woodlands in the beautiful north of Ibiza, is the personal finca of Bonnie Meredith, her partner and daughter. At the time of purchasing, it was completely unmodernised. Bonnie & Guy undertook a light renovation to make it liveable, including a revamp of essential services (electrics and plumbing), an internal repaint using traditional whitewash, installing new temporary kitchen and wood-burning stove, clearing the garden terraces around the house and then decorating it with their belongings acquired over the years. Bonnie had the seat cushions made with her UK supplier and turned around in only three weeks.

The fabrics are from Dedar & Hermes and the upholstery of the highest specification. Missing windows were made bespoke in time for winter, which luckily did not really transpire this year. The result is a warm and cosy atmospheric home full of interesting artefacts from all over the globe, including some elegant and simple mid-century pieces. The setting is in an ‘area of outstanding beauty’ and thus any adjustments require planning permissions, which can be lengthy. The plan is to create a larger kitchen/dining space, an open-plan master bedroom suite including a free-standing bath and hidden shower area behind the bedhead wall, exterior shaded dining and lounging spaces through the garden, install mechanical engineering including underfloor heating and ventilation heat recovery. They are in the process of going fully solar. The premise of the project is to be as authentic in the architectural reformation as possible, whilst putting Bonnie’s personal touch on it, the scheme of which is always evolving and welcomes true vibrancy and soul.
